Smoking prevalence in Great Britain is currently 14.9%. That means around 1 in 7 adults smoke.
Based on current trends, analysis shows that Great Britain will not be smoke-free by 2030.
Beyond 2030, smoking prevalence continues to fall but it is not until after 2050 that smoking is eradicated.
There are still around 7 million people smoking in Great Britain (GB). Although this number is set to decline, GB will not UNSMOKE until after 2050 unless significant action is taken. This should include more effective communication to existing smokers about the range of smoke-free alternatives available to them, where they cannot quit, or choose not to.
This interactive map uses analysis undertaken by Frontier Economics2 to show the parts of GB forecast to stop smoking first – and those predicted to still be smoking after 2050.

This area will go smoke free XX years XXXX the target year of XXXX and is ranked XX out of XX.
Adults in Great Britain will continue to smoke for another 30 years and the map shows the vast inequality in smoking levels.
We can bring smoking to an end sooner if significant action is taken. The best option is always to quit smoking completely. But for those who do not quit, there are now more alternatives than ever before - and smokers need better information to understand which is the right option for them.
By taking action now, we could eradicate adult smoking sooner than 2050.
It's time for change.
It's time to UNSMOKE Great Britain.
